MOVING TIPS

TIP #9 Check out our website

Don't forget to look at our Moving Guide Calendar which contains many tips and a recommended process to follow to get everything ready by the time you move.

The Moving Checklist should be a used as a guideline to complete the many tasks you need to get done when you move. You'll see the Moving Guide Calendar and the Checklist have many similar items.

Are we missing anything on our lists? Please let us know.

TIP #8 Preplanning Tip

Don't wait until the last week to organize all of your personal possesions. When you know you're moving, plan a garage sale. It's the best time to sort through all that unwanted stuff and you can use some of your earnings for a special meal when you're travelling to your new destination.

TIP #7 Packing tip

If you choose to pack your household effects yourself, be careful with your dishes and china. It is best to pack them in a "China" or "Dish" Barrel. This carton has double thick walls and is built for protection of your fragile items.

Start with a cushion layer of crumpled packing paper (newspaper will do).

Use packing paper between plates and remember to stack plates on their sides. This offers strongest support.

Once you have finished filling in the bottom, add some crushed paper on top for cushioning and start another tier in the same fashion.

TIP #6 Prepare your firearms

If you have firearms in your household, please make sure that they are not loaded, and that there is a trigger lock on each one of them.

Lance continues to be very active in the community, with his family.

TIP #5 Help yourself on local moves

Norm BottingTo save time when doing a local move you should disassemble beds, shelving and stuff that needs to be taken apart. This is stuff you can do yourself and will save you money.

TIP #4 Be prepared

Joe FitaOne way to be prepared is to supply your mover with a destination address and phone number. And if that changes, tell your Destination Agent.

The Agent name and phone number is supplied on your Bill of Lading that you receive at origin.

When you call them up always supply your Move Number (top right hand corner of any Matco household goods Bill of Lading) for easy reference.

TIP #3 Pre-move plans

It helps if everything is organized and ready to be packed/moved prior to movers arriving. ie: dishes washed, etc. This makes sure all of your similar items get packed together, making it easier to unpack at destination.

It is also helpful if you put aside the items that you will require for yourself during the course of the move such as towels, toothbrush, right amount of dishes (this one only really applies if you are staying in the house while move is taking place over a couple of days).

Also label any items that you do not require to be moved. Set them aside. It makes yours and your packers' lives easier.

TIP #2 Map your destiny

Have a map of your new home showing where the furniture is to be placed. This will help eliminate the confusion on delivery day. You can go so far as placing a map on the door of each room to help the movers place the furniture in the right spot the first time.

TIP #1 Reconnect your stereo with ease.

Dale MullenIt can be easy to set up your stereo once you've moved into your new home. You should label all your stereo cables before the packing crew even comes. For example, Tape Deck "Out" to Amplifier "Tape-In". That way they are all labelled before they go into any carton.

I just use masking tape and a pen.
